Lisa Marie Presley blamed one thing for causing her divorce from Michael Jackson.
The estranged couple's love story began after their first brief meeting in the 1970s. They did not have any close interaction again until nearly two decades later. However, at that time, Presley was already married to Danny Keough.
They gave their relationship a chance and got married 20 days after Presley's divorce from Keough in 1994. But in December 1995, they confirmed their split, with Presley revealing she filed divorce papers the following month.
Following the finalization of their divorce in 1996, a recent report claimed that the "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet" singer did not want to leave Jackson in the first place.
Radar Online cited the new blog post by The Underground Bunker, which featured Presley's unearthed interview with Tony Ortega.
According to Ortega, Presley's decision to say she just "had enough" in their relationship was her way to save face. However, in reality, Scientology reportedly affected the former couple's relationship.
"I was in love with Michael. I wanted to help him," she said years before her death. "There was always someone here. Even when we did that ABC prime time interview, there was always a Scientology handler right there."
Presley told Ortega that David Miscavige facilitated her divorce from the "Smooth Criminal" hitmaker as Miscavige and Scientologist attorney, John P. Coale, pressured her into doing so.
Lisa Marie Presley Spoke About Her Love for Michael Jackson
Although Scientology affected them, Presley confessed how much she loved the late singer and how she never wanted to leave him.
The "Lights Out" singer expressed his desire to help Jackson amid all his troubles. However, people in the religion made sure she left him for good.
Attorney Coale, on the other hand, told Ortega that he never told Presley to love or unlove Jackson. He also called the claim about telling Presley to file first something "absurd."
The Church of Scientology has not responded to the claims as of press time.
Aside from losing her relationship with Jackson, Presley disclosed in the same interview that the church also approached her late father, Elvis Presley. However, the King of Rock & Roll refused them as he believed they only wanted him for his fame and money.
She left the church in 2014 and even compared its leader to Adolf Hitler.
