Artificial intelligence is taking over several creative outlets and communities like art, writing, and more recently, music. David Guetta is currently facing negative reactions from fans after he used a deep fake AI voice of Eminem in a recent performance; how did he do it?
Taking to his official Twitter account, the famed DJ shared a video of himself performing at an event where he used the legendary rapper's fake voice during one of his sets.
A seemingly flawless voice of the hip-hop artist said, "This is the future rave sound / I'm getting awesome and underground."
"Let me introduce you to... Emin-AI-em," Guetta wrote in the caption.
Later in the clip, the "Titanium" producer talked about how he pulled off the concept, revealing that he used an artificial intelligence-generating website.
"Eminem bro, there's something that I made as a joke and it works so good - I could not believe it!" he said, adding that he wrote a verse or lyrics in the style of any artist using the technology so he used a prompt that would get inspiration from Eminem. (via Variety)
Following this, he went to another website that could recreate the voice using text. By the time he played the audio at his show, the crowd went wild.
In another tweet, the French DJ clarified that he will not release the song commercially.
After the video went viral with nearly a million views as of this writing, many fans immediately called out Guetta for his use of artificial intelligence.
"AI is cool, but it sucks at the same time. New, but also fake. I dunno man..." one wrote, while another one expressed, "not only they make profit playing the music from another artist , that now they also steal their voices too!"
Another user asked if David Guetta is afraid of possibly facing a lawsuit from Eminem as he used his voice, and questioned where AI draws the line legally.
As of this writing, Eminem has not reacted to the musician's recent work using his deep fake AI voice.
Artificial intelligence has been a center of controversy over the past year, especially after Bad Seeds' frontman Nick Cave called out AI-generating websites that could write songs or lyrics inspired by whatever the user add to the prompt, saying the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, only imitates other artists and can never have "an authentic human experience."
