In the past few weeks and months, Joshua Bassett fans have taken to Twitter to express their worry about the singer's recent change of heart.
In a tweet, Bassett had his fans worried after professing his Christian faith on Twitter. While that is normal for people to do, his fans thought that his account was hacked at the time because of the rather personal and sensitive nature of the tweet.
But Bassett has clarified since that he was not indeed hacked, and he was just happy to share that he has turned in a new leaf.
Weeks passed, and it was revealed that Bassett had been attending Bethel Church in California. Some of his fans were shocked to know this as Bassett, who has publicly come out to be gay, is attending a church that has public policies of their hatred towards the LGBTQ community and even endorsing conversion therapy.
Last week, Bassett announced that he would be having a performance in Los Angeles City.
But to many's surprises, Bassett performed gospel songs in his performance, as reported by Pop Crave. The Joshua Basset LA performance also included religious testimonies.
In a video snippet now trending on Twitter, Bassett even shared during the concert that he has reached out to his father, who supports conversion therapy, to "help him get saved."
Fans were alarmed if Bassett's choice to join the megachurch was his own clear choice and was not manipulated into doing so.
A fan even expressed their disbelief, pointing out that he came out as an "openly bisexual atheist" who opened up about his struggle with mental health," and was now getting baptized in a megachurch that has strong policies against LGBTQ.
Last week, a video of Bassett getting baptized made rounds online. When Bassett was asked if he was aware of Bethel Church's anti-LGBTQ policies, he had this to say:
"i visited this church and happened to get baptized here- i was unaware of some of their policies and beliefs, and do not endorse all of them. my heart is for Christ and Christ alone!" he tweeted.
While some of his fans were supportive of his newfound faith, some were really concerned and alarmed over it.
"idk much about him and his two very popular public ex relationships, but i do recall hearing about him "coming out" then joining some church that practices gay conversion therapy. all jokes aside, i hope he is okay & hasn't been manipulated," someone shared.
"notice how his clothes r now insanely baggy...something happened to this boy and i feel like no one is trying to find out why," another suggested.
"i feel bad, bc this definitely isn't a normal thing, for him to be baptized in a church of conversion therapy after he came out is so weird strange and SCARY," another pointed out.
