Is Metallica dropping a new song?

Fans flocked to Metallica's TikTok account as members continuously uploaded videos in the past few days. Lars Ulrich started with a clip of him playing the drums on Feb. 25. The next day, another video showed Ulrich and Robert Trujillo playing together.

The latest clip featured the duo and James Hetfield jamming together.

Fans now expect Kirk Hammett to appear in the next video, and they assume it will be uploaded on Feb. 28.

As they said these could be hints at Metallica's new song, a thread on Reddit also compiled comments from fans who think that it could be a new single or music video. One also suggested that the members playing a song together while being in separate locations is the same as how they created "72 Seasons" together.

Metallica has not confirmed any details yet. But it came after the band's ex-bassist, Jason Newsted, revealed he started putting together a heavy new project.

In his appearance on Gator 98.7 FM's Gator Garage, the musician said he spent six months in 2022 creating THE CHOPHOUSE BAND "Volume 1." He revealed that he is now focusing on another project.

"So the last couple of weeks I've been auditioning guitar players for a heavy project," Newsted said. "I'm back on bass and singing with a metal drummer - double bass, you know; getting' loud again. So I've got a couple of irons in the fire. I'm putting two new projects together right now - but loud."

As for Metallica, its recent release was the 2023 single, "Screaming Suicide." It followed the band's November 2022 single, "Lux Æterna."

Metallica Gearing Up for 12th Studio Album

While they are being asked about the potential new single, Metallica has since confirmed the arrival of its 12th studio album, "72 Seasons."

On Metallica's official website, the band confirmed its new project in six years since "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct."

Metallica's new album has 12 tracks that run over 77 minutes: "72 Seasons," "Shadows Follow," "Screaming Suicide," "Sleepwalk My Life Away," "You Must Burn!," "Lux Æterna," "Crown of Barbed Wire," "Chasing Light," "If Darkness Had a Son," "Too Far Gone?," "Room of Mirrors," and "Inamorata."

It also confirmed its release date on April 14, 2023.

Explaining the meaning behind the title, Hetfield said that "s72 Seasons" stands for the first 18 years of a person's life that form their "true or false selves."
