Morgan Wallen paid tribute to his upbringing as he performed at his local high school recently and Spotify had a big contribution to the event's promotion despite shadowbanning him last year.

According to Digital Music News, the intimate concert, which aims to promote his new album "One Thing At A Time," was attended by the school's faculty staff, senior class, the baseball team, and locals from the city where he grew up.

In a statement, Spotify's Head of Label Partnerships and Music Strategy in Nashville, Brittany Schaffer, noted that the public can't deny how Wallen's music has connected with fans at a "core level" and he is one of the most popular artists in the streaming platform.

She added that the country musician is introducing the country genre to a new generation of isteners, making the release of his new album special.

"We're thrilled to be able to celebrate the release of this new album with him," Schaffer said.

Speaking about choosing his high school as the place to hold the event, the streaming service's Artist & Label Partnerships Manager for Nashville Miller Guth said they wanted to bring fans into his world by having a concert in an "influential location of his past where they'll get to know him even more."

Spotify Shadowbans Morgan Wallen

Spotify, along with several radio stations across the United States, removed Morgan Wallen's songs from their playlists and lineup after a controversy that happened in February 2021.

It all began when the musician was caught on video using a racial slur after a night out with his friends.

This prompted his record label to suspend him and he was also called out by other musicians, as well as being uninvited to awards shows. (via CNN)

However, despite the backlash, the sales of his music skyrocketed and even led him to win several awards.

The outlet noted that Spotify began reinstating Wallen's songs into their playlists a month after the incident. He later dropped an album titled "Dangerous: The Double Album" and was able to go on tour.

The country crooner had already apologized for his actions and promised to be educated. He also pledged $500,000 to be donated to Black-led organizations.
