Geoff Tate gave his fans some updates after facing health issues and undergoing open-heart surgery.
The former Queensrÿche singer is about to have a tour this year to mark the 35th anniversary of the band's classic album, "Operation: Mindcrime." As he prepares for it, he also gives his fans an update regarding his condition after receiving the procedure in 2022.
In an interview with Finland's Chaoszine, the singer shared how the surgery gave him a whole new perspective on life. According to the "Take Hold of the Flame" singer, he has become more reflective now and tends to enjoy his life more.
"I take time to notice what's happening around me and how I feel at any given time. I'm keeping track of that more now rather than..." he said. "I think I'm guilty of sort of living in the future of trying to get some place. And now I'm very comfortable and enjoying being in the moment, enjoying that."
Tate previously shared an update to Heavy Magazine, revealing that he had an aortic valve replacement. He recalled feeling healthy until he was advised to have open-heart surgery in June 2022.
Since the singer had reportedly never been in the hospital before, the experience ultimately became an eye-opener for him.
From having a bad shape, he ultimately felt better and can now run up the stairs without having a problem.
He noted that he did not expect his hospitalization because the symptoms he felt seemed to be normal to people. But soon after seeing his doctor, he found out the truth about his condition.
According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the procedure allows doctors to replace a person's poorly working aortic valve with an artificial one. By doing so, it can be assured that the blood can exit and flow out of the heart normally.

Following his health battle, Tate kicked off his Big Rock Show Hits tour on Dec. 1 alongside his international band members: Kieran Robertson, Jason Ames, James Brown, Alex Hart, Danny Laverde, and Jack Ross.
The 28-date tour ended on Jan. 14 at the Amaturo Theater at The Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Five days after the US show, they started the "Empire" 30th anniversary trek.
Tate launched his new career after he and Queensrÿche settled a two-year lawsuit in April 2014. The singer sued the band over the rights to Queensrÿche's name after he was fired in 2012.
