Lady Gaga shocks by attending the Oscars, wows by performing "Hold My Hand," and shocks because of her instant transformation. It was epic for fans to see.
The biggest surprise of the 2023 Academy Awards wasn't Angela Bassett's loss to Jamie Lee Curtis for best supporting actress; it was Lady Gaga's performance, despite her prior proclamation that she wouldn't be attending the March 12 ceremony.
Gaga performed an acoustic rendition of her Oscar-nominated song "Hold My Hand" from "Top Gun: Maverick".
After wearing a full face of makeup on the red carpet just hours earlier, the 36-year-old appeared bare-faced for her performance, with only a trace of her crimson lipstick remaining on her lips.
She exchanged the Versace that Gigi Hadid modeled just days earlier at the Italian fashion house's L.A. show for ripped skinny jeans, an inside-out T-shirt, and worn-out sneakers. It was first rumored that Gaga will not perform at the 2023 Academy Awards because she would be too busy filming Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the 2018 film Joker.
Glenn Weiss, executive producer and showrunner of the Oscars, said during last week's press conference that after a lot of back-and-forth, it didn't feel like she could deliver a performance of the standard that fans are used to with her, or that she's used to, thus she would not perform on the night.
Weiss even said that Gaga is focused on filming a movie, and they are celebrating the film business and everything it takes to make a movie.
The casual appearance suggests that her unpolished rendition of "Hold My Hand" was thrown together at the last minute, hence the inference.
But, even though it lacked the glitz and glam of her 2018 Oscar-winning performance of "Shallow," this year's performance was just as poignant, if not more so.
Note that before this epic performance, she was in her glitzy gown and even took the time to help a photographer. Could she even be more magical this night?
Despite her late arrival, Lady Gaga took a moment to assist a photographer who had fallen on the carpet. The incident occurred as she gently approached the event while waving to onlookers. When she went away, a loud uproar was audible. She quickly saw, turned and hurried to help the individual up. Fans praised the Oscar nominee after the clip was posted on Instagram. "She's a real one ️," one person wrote in the comments. "One more reason to love her ️," another added. "She didn't even hesitate! ," a different user said.
