Ed Sheeran will be releasing his new single "Eyes Closed" later this month and he recently gave an explanation about the upcoming track, saying it was inspired by heartbreak after someone close to him passed away.
Taking to his official Instagram account, the British musician shared a series of black-and-white photos of himself. In the caption, the singer explained the deep meaning of his upcoming single.
"This song is about losing someone, feeling like every time you go out and you expect to just bump into them, and every thing just reminds you of them and things you did together," he wrote. (via Billboard)
Sheeran then further explained that he took himself out of reality to ease the pain of loss, but there will be some things that will remind him of his late friend.
Inspired by his friend, Jamal Edwards, who passed away at the age of 31 last year, the singer said blue was his color and it is all he feels in the present.
"I guess music helps heal, so I'm dancing with my eyes closed to try get through it," he concluded.
"Eyes Closed" will be available for purchase, download, and streaming on major music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music starting on March 24, 2023.

In early reports, Jamal Edwards was a significant personality in the British music scene as he was the founder and CEO of SBTV, a youth media platform.
The music entrepreneur passed away on February 20, 2022, at the age of 31. He died of cardiac arrest.

A few weeks ago, fans rejoiced as the 32-year-old artist finally announced that he would be dropping his long-awaited album "-" (pronounced as Subtract) later this year.
He noted that he had been working on the project for over a decade now as he wanted the acoustic album to be as perfect as possible.
Sheeran wrote and recorded hundreds of tracks for the record until 2022 happened when there have been significant events in his life that changed his perspective.
"For the first time I'm not trying to craft an album people will like, I'm merely putting something out that's honest and true to where I am in my adult life," he added.
