Lil Nas X has always been blunt on social media, especially on his Twitter account. Aside from posting jokes that a certain demographic would probably understand and appeal to, Montero has had a few rough times on the platform that got him being called out by certain communities.
Most recently was his joke about transitioning as a female. Lil Nas X has been proudly referring to himself as a gay man, despite initially denying it because of how he thought it could affect his chances of breaking through in the hip-hop industry because of his sexuality.
But now, Lil Nas X has embraced his sexuality more than ever, albeit too much, as others on Twitter would say.
Lil Nas X Transition Joke Gone Wrong
Earlier this week, Lil Nas X, formally known as Montero Hill, posted a morphed photo of her as a "fully-transitioned" woman. With a caption like "The surgery was a success," Montero jokingly suggested that he has undergone gender confirmation surgery, just like a trans woman would do to fully transition.
In the past, he has also referenced getting pregnant on his teasers on the release of his debut album, "Montero."
While his previous jokes on pregnancy, becoming a woman, and being proud of becoming a queer icon were well received by his fans and the internet, Lil Nas X trans joke seemed to have pissed many.
He received backlash because of the alleged insensitivity of his photo and joke to the trans community.
"I love Lil Nas X and I think that some of his antics are causing really frustrating conversations for trans people, specifically black trans folks. his fake pregnancy photos opened up a ugly can of worms and today's transition joke feels similar," a fan tweeted.
"lil nas x really pissed me off, like why would you subject a trans person to more violence over a joke that was already questionable?" another shared.
Lil Nas X Transition Joke Apology
Since posting his joke and the backlash he has amassed, Lil Nas X has issued an apology. He has also taken the post down.
"apologies to the trans community i def handled that situation with anger instead of considering why it was not cool. much love to you guys. Sorry," he posted.
However, some were still not convinced by his apology. A user pointed out that it was "fake as hell," even suggesting giving the community monetary donations because of his insensitive joke.
Here's what Lil Nas X had to say on the user's response to his Trans joke apology:
