Ringo Starr's son Zak Starkey was not always a fan of The Beatles' drummer.

Following Starr's footsteps, Starkey scored the chance to play with other bands, including The Who and Oasis. He mostly credits his father as he thinks The Beatles' drummer is one of the greatest drum players of all time.

However, Starkey did not always feel that way.

Ringo Starr's Son Was Not a Fan of Him

In the past, Starkey revealed that - instead of his father - Star's friend Keith Moon was one of his biggest influences. He told Modern Drummer that he wanted to play the drums because of him.

"When I was very young there was music all around me in my parents' house. You would go into the living room and find stacks and stacks of LPs. I would spend my days listening to records," he said." My dad took me to see T. Rex when I was six."

He then desired to be like Marc Bolan before fanboying over David Bowie.

Starkey added that Starr only gave him one drumming lesson, and he became on his own.

Why Zak Starkey Did Not Think Ringo Starr Was a Great Drummer

In Michael Seth Starr's book, "Ringo: With a Little Help," it was revealed that the father-and-son tandem did not have a smooth-sailing relationship. In fact, Starkey formed hatred whenever people compared him to his father.

When Starkey was still a teenager, he said that being Ringo Starr's son was "the biggest drag" in his life. He noted how he was always spoken about as The Beatles drummer's son and related him to Starr in whatever he did.

He went on to declare that he was not truly a fan of his father's musical abilities, making him count him out on his list of the greatest drummers.

"My old man's a good timekeeper, one of the best, but I've never thought of him as a great drummer, not really," he said. "Ringo gave me one lesson, just one, when I was young. Then he told me to listen to records and play along with them."

But now that Starkey has grown up, he now offers a higher opinion of Starr and declared he is the greatest drummer alive. He admitted to being rebellious against comparisons that led him to say things.

He then said that Starr is the greatest living drummer, and that it feels great to be his son.
