Coolio's cause of death has been determined months after his passing.
Initial reports in October cited a statement from Coolio's manager, Jarez Posey, who believed that his artist passed away following an apparent heart attack. Meanwhile, the rapper's pal said his history with asthma probably contributed to the heartbreaking event.
Coolio's Real Cause of Death Finally Determined
Coolio's manager, who also serves as the family's spokesperson, informed a news outlet that the coroner's office handed them the official documents months after his passing.
According to the findings, the late "C U When You Get There" rapper died after consuming fentanyl. The medical examiner reportedly found traces of methamphetamines and heroin in his system, as well.
Posey learned from the investigators that Coolio's health issue, severe asthma, and his cigarettes use for decades played a factor in his death. These reportedly weakened his body and affected his ability to fight back the drug.
Following the confirmation, Coolio's children - Artisha, Darius, Artis III, Christopher, Melan, Jackie, and Brandi - told Posey they will always remember their father for being a great man. They also want the public to know how much they loved him and how he dedicated his life as a father despite being busy in the hiphop industry.
As of press time, Coolio's family is said to be preparing to honor his legacy through documentaries and films. Details regarding the plans are yet to be confirmed.
Coolio's Death Tragic
Coolio's manager was the same person who confirmed his death in October. The rapper, whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr., was initially found unresponsive at the 2900 block of South Chesapeake Ave.
Los Angeles Fire Department's Capt. Erik Scott said that firefighters and paramedics were called to the area, where they found the then-unnamed male. After performing CPR for 45 minutes, Coolio ultimately passed away.
Talks about his asthma reemerged at that time, as the public suggested it might have contributed to his passing. Page Six noted that the rapper suffered an episode while performing in 2016. A fan watching his show at Hill Country Barbecue Market in Brooklyn saved him by giving him an inhaler.
Coolio himself revealed in a 2002 interview that he nearly died several times because of the health issue. He was diagnosed with a chronic disease that had since required him to undergo long treatment.
