A former Dream singer, Melissa Schuman, recently took legal action against Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Melissa claims that in 2003 when she was 18 years old and he was 22, Nick sexually assaulted her by performing oral sex without her consent before demanding for her to do the same.

She alleges that her virginity was taken away by the pop star against her will, as she made it clear to him beforehand that she wanted to save herself for marriage.

Melissa further accused Nick of sexually abusing her in his home in 2017 and claimed "the Harvey Weinstein allegations" were "a big trigger" for her.

Desiring justice, she took action in February. She submitted a report to Santa Monica Police Department against the older brother of Aaron Carter, wishing he would be charged with a criminal offense.

However, Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office did not pursue prosecution as it was past its expiration date of limitation.

As of the start of 2020, a new law in California offers hope to many survivors of sexual assault. It allows them to report their claims and extends the filing period.

In response to the claims of nonconsensual sexual contact, Nick Carter has denied all accusations. In early February, he went so far as to file a countersuit against Shannon Ruth and Melissa, who had initially sued him in December 2022 for an alleged rape incident on a tour bus in 2001 when Shannon was 17 years old.

Filing a countersuit for extortion and defamation, the boy band crooner alleged that two women had formed a "conspiracy" against him. He leveled these serious accusations against them as he sought to prove his case.

Liane K. Wakayama, attorney for Nick, spoke to Page Six regarding Melissa Schuman's claims and declared, "This narrative has been presented by Schuman for a long period of time now; however, her assertion was and continues to be incorrect since its first introduction in 2017."

She said that in an exciting turn of events, a Nevada judge recently evaluated substantial evidence Nick had presented as a part of his legal case against Melissa.

After careful consideration, it was reportedly ruled that there is sufficient justification for Nick to pursue litigation to protect himself, his colleagues, and those he cares about from being tarnished or extorted.

A case against Shannon by Nick claimed millions of dollars in lost wages, and he specified Melissa as an accomplice. This was reported by the Daily Mail, with a total of $2.3M being sought in damages.
