After getting her first CMT Music Award, Lainey Wilson might be earning her first Emmy nomination as her song "Smell Like Smoke" will be submitted for consideration in the Original Song category for the prestigious award-giving body.
Lainey Wilson's "Smell Like Smoke" might be going head-to-head with Marcus Mumford's "Daisy Jones & The Six's" submission on the said category - talk about a country music artist music melee!
Lainey Wilson 'Smell Like Smoke' on 'Yellowstone' Vying For Emmy Nod
In an exclusive Variety report, Wilson personally confirmed that the song she made for "Yellowstone," "Smell Like Smoke," will be submitted for consideration for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
Being included in "Yellowstone" is a defining moment for the 30-year-old singer as it also marked the acting debut of her career. Wilson appeared as Abby on Season 5 of the show, a country music singer who befriends Ian Bohn's Ryan.
Elaborating more on the song "Smell Like Smoke" meaning, Wilson revealed that the record perfectly mirrors the overall themes of the show - cowboys, heartbreak, self-assurance, and faith.
"If I smell like smoke, it's only cause I've been through hell" was the first line that got the song started. "It was a little rough around the edges, but with good energy, which we thought was perfect for 'Yellowstone,'" she told the publication.

Lainey Wilson's "Smell Like Smoke" was co-written by Monty Criswell, Lynn Hutton, and by country music songwriter and guitarist Derek George - it was he who came up with the "signature guitar lick" at the start of the track while Wilson and Criswell worked around the lyrics as Hutton took over melodies.
Per Wilson, the song is a perfect addition to the show's overall vibe - as they thought that a song "about owning tough times" would perfectly encapsulate it. Wilson landed the role when showrunner Taylor Sheridan created a role just for her.
Marcus Mumford 'Daisy Jones & The Six' Emmy Nod
Variety sources also previously revealed that three from the eleven-song album "Aurora" from "Daisy Jones & The Six," will be submitted for Emmy consideration on the same award as Wilson's.
"Let Me Down Easy," "Look at Us Now (Honeycomb)" and "The River" are all reported to be submitted. Marcus Mumford is credited on "Look at Us Now (Honeycomb)" so if that song would be chosen, it would be a head-to-head battle with Wilson.
