Is Jesy Nelson flopping because fans hate her?
The former Little Mix member's newly released single "Bad Thing" was met with a lukewarm reception, garnering a little more than 6,000 streams on the first day of its release.
Nelson was wrapped in controversy following her exit from the girl group in December 2020, and it still has not left her more than two years later.
Even after launching her solo career, the fans continued to hound her, making jokes at her "failed attempt" of a singing career, erasing her from all Little Mix pictures, and even comparing her to the remaining members, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall, and Leigh-Ann Pinnock.
Last Straw
According to Billboard, the singer took to social media to finally address the constant bringing up of Little Mix in her solo career.
"What's really s**t about this f**king music industry is that when you're going in to do an interview and you think you're going to be talking about your music, and the video, and actually talking about something that's really important to you, that went on in your life and has happened to women around you - domestic violence - which is what my music video was about," Nelson began.
"It's really s**t to then, you know, obviously get asked a question about Little Mix. Which is inevitable, I was in Little Mix for 10 years."
She then directly criticized the reporters who kept asking about her relationship with the girls, whether they were still in speaking terms or not, which she admitted, they were not.
"It's just f**king bulls**t, 'cause I just feel like women just get pitted up against each other 24/ 7 in music," she continued, then explained how everything she says about the group gets taken out of context.
Why Fans Hate Jesy Nelson
Fans did not always hate Nelson, in fact, it was the opposite. Back when she announced her departure from Little Mix, fans wished her well, as she had cited mental health reasons.
However, it was the black fishing allegations and Nelson's non-verbal response to these allegations that pushed fans over the edge.
According to Medical News Today, blackfishing refers to the practice of dressing up as a Black person, it is also a form of blackface.
"I love Black culture. I love Black music. That's all I know; it's what I grew up on. I'm very aware that I'm a white British woman; I've never said that I wasn't," was Nelson's official response.
