Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante's sister and Frank Bello's mother, Rosie, has died, reports confirmed.
Benante revealed the heartbreaking news on Saturday. He disclosed that his sister, who is Anthrax bassist Frank Bello's mother, died on Friday.
Charlie Benante Mourns Rosie's Death
On Instagram, the drummer shared two photos featuring his eldest sister, Rosie. He called him the "strongest, smartest, and [most] resilient" woman people would ever meet.
Benante also paid tribute to her in the same post and noted how much she loved "Jaws".
"It was she that first told me about #jaws . My sister Rosie was an avid reader, she had an original copy of 'Jaws' - she was the one that started my obsession," he said, adding that he sent her a copy of "Jaws" when she was hospitalized.
The drummer also reminded his followers that Rosie is Bello's mother.
As the family lost her, Benante expressed his regret wishing he could have seen her more in the last few years leading to her death.
He also shared the same post on his official Facebook page.
How Charlie Benante Inspired Frank Bello
After Bello joined Anthrax as its bassist, Billboard reported that Benante played a huge role in having the bassist embrace the music industry. The drummer reportedly encouraged his nephew to use bass instead of guitar during the pre-Anthrax jam sessions and gigs.
Amid the band's success, Bello did not have a glamorous childhood. But he always acknowledged his mother's efforts to keep them educated and fed before he became a member of the famous band.
Bello always spoke proudly about the "great, strong women" in his life who supported them after his father left the family.
"My grandmother, my mother, my aunts; just beautiful people that I cherish to this day. As far as fatherhood, I want to show this is how not to do it," he said. "I experienced that. I don't want people to go through that. This is what happens when abandonment happens and [made] the hole I have in my gut, my heart."
Bello started savoring success in the 1980s. However, he suffered a loss when his brother, Anthony, was murdered in New York.
Aside from music, the bass guitarist also worked on his memoir, "Fathers, Brothers, And Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, And Anthrax." He released it in October 2021 via Rare Bird.
