Cher and Alexander "AE" Edwards called it quits, with reports revealing that the two were never engaged before the split.

Despite their 40-year age gap, Cher and Edwards remained strong as they defended their relationship with the public. They first met at the Paris Fashion Week and began dating since then.

However, their fairytale love story was deemed to be short-lived.

Cher, Alexander "AE" Edwards Split

A news outlet released an exclusive report confirming that the 76-year-old "If I Could Turn Back Time" hitmaker and her young beau called it quits. The report added that they were never engaged despite the previous reports.

According to the news outlet's sources, the now-ex-couple broke up a couple of weeks ago. It remains unknown, however, why they ended things or who decided to end what they had.

One of the insiders added that the two were never engaged to be married. Instead, they reportedly played with the engagement rumors as Cher told the reporters in January that Edwards had already popped the question.

The singer even flashed the ring in public, with Cher saying one time how she wished she could show it to her late mother, Georgia Holt.

Neither of the two already addressed the split on their social media pages.

Cher, Alexander "AE" Edwards' Breakup Unexpected?

Before the recent split rumors surfaced, Cher spoke about how very much in love they were in her interviews. They also publicly showed their love for each other, even during their appearance at a pre-Grammys party.

Although their age gap had been a center of criticism, the musician repeatedly said that "love doesn't know math." Still, a source told People that the now-ex-couple did not have plans on taking what they had to the next level yet.

Cher is no longer new to dating younger men. Before Edwards, she already dated Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer, among others.

Meanwhile, there were rumors that her sons, Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman, warned her about Edwards as they called him a gold-digger. They reportedly said the beau was only playing their mother to benefit from her popularity and influence in the music industry.

The matriarch, meanwhile, reportedly hit back and told them they should consider her happiness instead.

Per the reports, the disagreement led Cher to remove them from her $360 million will. No statements have proven the issues so far.
