It has been several months since SZA dropped her highly anticipated sophomore album "SOS," and the world could not seem to stop listening to its bops.
The singer's music has been practically living on top of the Billboard charts week after week, and the fans' hard work streaming it has finally paid off.
According to Billboard, SZA just broke a record that the legendary Aretha Franklin has held on to for over five decades.
"SOS" became the longest reigning No. 1 by a female soloist in Billboard's music chart history, taking the crown from Franklin's "Aretha Now."
Just a couple of weeks ago, SZA also set a new record with "Kill Bill" topping the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart for the longest period of time.
As of this writing, SZA is yet to address her new achievement and milestone added to her flourishing career.
Like Fan, Like Idol
Although SZA is yet to comment on breaking Franklin's record, it might also come as such a great honor for her.
Especially since she is a massive Franklin fan. According to reports, she was among the artists who paid tribute to the iconic singer back in 2018.
SZA, along with Janelle Monae and Alessia Cara, performed a tribute to the late singer called "Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul."
Then the following year, SZA once again paid tribute to Franklin by performing a medley of "Day Dreaming" and "You're All I Need to Get By" with Alicia Keys.
The "Kill Bill" singer also covered several Franklin songs during a tribute concert in Australia back in 2019.
Record-Breaking Milestone
"Aretha Now" is Franklin's thirteenth studio album, released in 1968. It includes some of her most popular hits like "I Say A Little Prayer," "I Can't See Myself Leaving You," and "Think."
Other songs included in the album are "See Saw," "Night Time is the Right Time," "You Send Me," "You're a Sweet Sweet Man," "I Take What I Want," "Hello Sunshine," and "A Change."
It peaked at No. 1 on the R&B Albums chart, No. 3 on the Pop Albums chart, and No. 9 on the Jazz Albums chart by Billboard.
SZA broke a 54-year-old record that "Aretha Now" previously held, and there's no stopping her from breaking another record soon enough.
