David Coverdale embraced a major change while he recuperates from his recent health issues.
Whitesnake 2023 tour has been put on hold as its frontman faces health issues that keep him away from holding his mic stand. While the band is yet to confirm the resumption of its shows, Coverdale debuted a new hairstyle that shocked the fans.
David Coverdale Changes His Hairstyle
From his blonde hair, Coverdale now dons shades of gray hair after he decided to change his trademark look.
He revealed in the weekly YouTube series hosted by Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson, THAT Rocks!, that he had been planning to change his style for a while now. He then decided to do it after seeing a photo of him taken during his Deep Purple days.
"I've been tempted to do it for a while, and last year was such a challenging year; I was on so much medication that it really crisped my hair," he said. "I looked like a terrible Norwegian death metal band or something that had never heard of conditioner. So it was the perfect time to embrace the gray."
The 71-year-old musician added that he found it amazing to find someone brave enough to help him cut his hair since he could receive disapproval as he had not done it for such a long time.
After debuting his haircut, Coverdale said he had another hair appointment scheduled this week.
Instead of having negative feelings about his new look, the singer shrugged off those people who were pissed off and said he is "who he is."
David Coverdale's Health Issues
Coverdale's change of style came after the frontman and Whitesnake canceled their European and North American shows due to his "continued treatment for a persistent upper respiratory infection."
They previously canceled three European tour dates after Coverdale was diagnosed with an infection of the sinus and trachea.
While he currently recuperates, Coverdale told "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" that he wishes to see Whitesnake continue its farewell tour in 2024 and perform in Japan.
Aside from his recent health issues, Coverdale also struggled with degenerative arthritis in 2017 which affected his capacity to perform live. He had both his knees replaced with titanium to ease the pain.
As of press time, the band is yet to confirm the target date of its tour's resumption.
