Marduk confirmed its sudden change in lineup amid Joel Lindholm's Nazi salute controversy.
The Swedish black metal band headlined the Incineration Fest in London on Sunday and hyped fans with its songs. But a few days later, a video of its now-ex-bassist doing the Nazi salute on stage led to his ousting.
Joel Lindholm Exits Marduk Amid Nazi Salute Controversy
On YouTube and other social media sites, a video of the bassist caught Lindholm doing the salute at the end of the song.
Loudwire noted that the bassist seemingly did it around the 45:07 mark in the video, showing the bassist extending his arm and raising his palm to allegedly display the salute.
After the controversy, Marduk released a statement on Facebook confirming that Lindholm had left his position in the band and disclosed who the replacement would be.
"Following a variety of intolerable stage antics by a very drunk Joel at Incineration Fest last week, he has vacated his position in the band," the band said. "Our old friend and bass player Devo has agreed to step in on a temporary basis, so this is unlikely to affect any of the upcoming shows."
Not the 1st Time?
MetalSucks listed all the instances the band members committed controversial actions and got involved in Nazi allegations.
Per the news outlet, a Swedish newspaper reported that singer Daniel Rosten and former drummer Fredrik Widigs bought Nazi propaganda from the Nordic resistance movement. Their names, addresses, and IP addresses matched the members, but the band shared in a statement that the claims were not true.
Marduk also canceled a 2016 show in Oakland due to security concerns as people threw Nazi accusations against the group.
Despite the lineup change, Marduk will still perform in its upcoming shows, including the Steelfest on May 18. The band will then hold a two-day event at Thronefest in Kuurne, Belgium, before joining the Sweden Rock Festival on June 8.
Marduk will continue its trek at the Graspop Metal Meeting, Pitifest, Area 53, Metaldays, Beyond the Gates, and Rockstadt Extreme Fest in the next few months. It will wrap up its current schedule at the Summer Breeze in Dinkelsbühl, Germany.
