Miley Cyrus spoke candidly about her past relationship with Liam Hemsworth and whether it inspired her to create her hit song, "Flowers."
The arrival of Cyrus' "Jaded" sparked another set of rumors claiming that the track references her relationship with Hemsworth again just like what "Flowers" did. As the buzz continues to lurk, the singer finally addressed them as she spoke about her past relationship with the actor.
Miley Cyrus Does Not Regret Relationship With Liam Hemsworth
In her interview with British Vogue published on Thursday, the 30-year-old "Wrecking Ball" hitmaker spoke candidly about not having any regrets about her past romance with Hemsworth.
"I wouldn't erase my story or want it to be erased," she said of her 10-year relationship with the actor. "Having an interesting life makes for interesting storytelling."
She also talked about how they met, saying it was a blind date for her but not for Hemsworth.
Cyrus and Hemsworth called it quits when he filed for divorce in August 2019, citing "irreconcilable differences." They finalized their divorce in January 2020 and moved on with their new partners: Hemsworth dating Australian model Gabriella Brooks and Cyrus seeing Simpson.
Is Miley Cyrus' "Flowers" About Liam Hemsworth?
Elsewhere in the interview, Cyrus was asked whether "Flowers" is indeed about Hemsworth. Instead of confirming whether or not they are connected, she started explaining the message of the song.
The singer said her craft will "set itself on fire all by itself" instead of pushing her to trick an audience into doing it.
Indeed, "Flowers" became a hot topic when she released it in January. The crooner dropped it on Hemsworth's 33rd birthday; its lyrics also referenced the 2018 wildfire that destroyed their house.
Fans also shared a video of Cyrus dancing in the song's music video and uploaded it alongside the similar dance that horrified Hemsworth during a previous red carpet interview. They also assumed that the tuxedo she wore in one part of the clip belonged to her ex-husband.
Despite not directly confirming it, Cyrus has been proud of her work, especially since it became the fastest song in Spotify history to surpass one billion streams. "Flowers" broke the record 112 days after its release.
It also dominated several charts, including Billboard Hot 100. For Cyrus, "Flowers" is a type of track that tells people to "fake it 'til you make it."
