Taylor Swift is facing backlash from some fans over her rumored relationship with The 1975's Matty Healy, an English pop star who has been embroiled in controversy over bigoted remarks and quips, most recently during a podcast appearance when he targeted Ice Spice.
Social media users are presently sharing an open letter to Taylor Swift with the hashtag "#SpeakUpNow" in an effort to persuade her to deny the rumored connection to Healy.
The letter accuses Healy of actions [that] contribute to the perpetuation of hatred, stereotypes, and objectification" and requests that Swift respond publicly to Healy's controversies.
While individuals have the right to make their own choices and form relationships, those who signed the letter are in effect believing that it is essential for those in the public eye to take a position against discrimination and hold themselves and their associates accountable.
Silence regarding actions that propagate hatred and contribute to systemic oppression undermines the progress made toward equality and understanding." Swift is asked for "more than a simple apology" in the letter. "Utilize your platform with responsibility and intent. Advocate for inclusiveness, celebrate diversity, and encourage empathy and comprehension. Inspire followers to assist you in creating a more just and equitable world by combating harmful ideologies."
In light of his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, Matty Healy's controversial podcast remarks from earlier this year have resurfaced.
During a February appearance on The Adam Friedland Show podcast, The 1975 frontman discussed a period when he masturbated to porn of "brutalised" women. Friedland and his co-host Nick Mullen discussed an incident in which Friedland and a woman walked in on Healy masturbating to 'hardcore pornography' '30 seconds' after leaving a party at Healy's home.
Matty, age 34, was reportedly viewing pornographic videos depicting the humiliation and brutalization of predominantly Black women on the website Ghetto Gaggers. Friedland described how he and a female companion returned to Healy's residence after departing the party because she realized she had forgotten her water bottle.
Meanwhile, Joe Alwyn reportedly "feels insulted and is distressed" over Taylor Swift's "burgeoning romance" with Matty Healy. A source told DailyMail.com on Thursday that the actor is upset because he placed his "trust" in the "Anti-Hero" singer when she told him that she and the 1975 frontman were merely "friends" while working on her album "Midnights," which was released in October 2022.
