Deceased celebrities, especially musicians, have their items and memorabilia being sold to various auctions through the years and most of them sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
More recently, the late Kurt Cobain's smashed guitar has been sold in New York; find out below how much the anonymous buyer bought it for.
According to the BBC, the musician's broken black Fender Stratocaster has been finally sold at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York.
The outlet noted that the instrument was smashed when Nirvana was in the production process of their now-classic record "Nevermind."

Although the guitar has been repaired and was put together after it had been smashed, the anonymous fan who bought it can no longer play it as it's not fit for use.
Aside from the instrument being valuable on its own, it even became more iconic as it was signed by all members of the band using a silver marker, but the Nirvana frontman opted to write his name differently as he wrote, "Kurdt Kobain."

In addition, an inscription written by Cobain to his friend Mark Lanegan, who passed away last year, was also featured in the black guitar.
According to Yahoo! News, the guitar was initially priced between $60,000 and $80,000. However, it was sold way past its estimated price, with the anonymous buyer dishing out a whopping $596,900 for the prized possession.
Why Did Kurt Cobain Break the Guitar?
Kody Frederick of Julien's Auctions previously told AFP news agency the reason why the musician smashed his guitar, saying, "The man was angry, and you could feel that on stage. And you would feel that by the way he would treat his instruments."
The instrument was later given to Lanegan while the band was touring in 1992.
As of this writing, the buyer remains anonymous, but the auction house named the previous buyer by the name of Tony Palmer.
This isn't the first time Kurt Cobain's items were put on sale as the acoustic guitar that he used for his MTV Unplugged performance was sold for a whopping $6 million in 2021. (via The Guardian)
