Tina Turner died "certain" that her mother did not want her. She mentioned this in one of her memoirs but now we'll never know if she changed her mind about this "fact." Did she make peace with it? Did she die believing it to be true?
The late "Private Dancer" singer was the youngest daughter of farm boss and Baptist deacon Floyd Richard Bullock and his factory worker wife Zelma Priscilla (née Currie), who had Evelyn Juanita Currie and Ruby Alline Bullock, who was also a songwriter and died in 2010 at the age of 73.
Tina Turner, who died on May 24 at the age of 83 from natural causes at her Swiss house, stated in her memoirs that she knows she was not wanted and that her mom only felt compelled to stay with her father just because she's pregnant.
She admitted to being "a little bit afraid" of her father.
Tina also revealed to Rolling Stone that her mother did not love her, saying that her mom obviously doted more on her sister Alline.
Meanwhile, Tina Turner, who had two sons from her first marriage and adopted two of Ike's children, was terrified that her son Ronnie would mimic his toxic father Ike Turner.
Ronnie Turner's wife, Afida Turner, alleged that the singer was so traumatized by Ike's aggression that he warned her that Ron "will be like his father" and she should just leave Ronnie.
Ike died of a heroin overdose in 2007 at the age of 76, following years of harassing Tina physically, mentally, and psychologically.
Tina attempted suicide in 1986 by eating 50 sleeping pills as a result of his abuse.
But after getting over all that she did in her life while maintaining great fame and wealth, Tina Turner was "not afraid of death" and "ready to go," according to a close friend.
Tina "was tired" after a long career, according to Stephen Sills, a designer and lifelong friend of the diva, who told People magazine in the early 2000s. At the time, Tina already acknowledge how great her life is but she's tired and ready to go. In the latter years of Turner's life, Sills was continuously visiting her and seeing her happy and comfortable.
