On November 23rd of last year, Keith Urban's duet with Miranda Lambert, "We Were Us," edged Luke Bryan's "That's My Kind of Night" out of the top spot on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart after a 12 week run. The tune was his 16th #1 single and cause to celebrate, but scheduling conflicts kept getting in the way.
After nine months of not being able to get everyone in the same area, the party went on - with Keith, writers Nicolle Galyon, Jon Nite, Jimmy Robbins and a few hundred industry folks - but no Miranda Lambert and no Nicole Kidman.
People reported that Keith explained to the party-goers what was up, saying, "Nic is in New York making a movie so she couldn't be here, but she asked me to say hello to everyone. This song went No. 1 quite some time ago, and we spent a long time trying to get my schedule and Miranda's schedule synced up. We finally had to do without her."
He also shared that he knew the duet was perfect for Lambert from the moment that he heard it. "Miranda was a huge part of this song," he shared. "You listen to every song in different ways. The images in this one got to me immediately, and Miranda's face and voice came to me at the same time. She was the only singer I would do this with."
Miranda, who is currently on tour, did send a video message for everyone. She said, "I love this song, I love the writers for writing it, and I love Keith Urban for asking me to be a part of it."
