When questioned on the matter, legendary Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher offered his opinion on the current state of rock.
He thought guitar-based music had taken a hit and been pushed to the side. He was also adamant in refuting The 1975's classification as a rock band.
He told NME's "In Conversation" series, "Oasis' influence, I think, was for people to fucking start a band in the first place."
According to him, guitar-based music has found itself on the fringe: "I do meet loads of guys who say that and that's great."
Noel added, "There are a lot of them around, it's just a pity guitar music has become marginalised. You've either got to be rock, or that f-----g The 1975. At the BRITs, The 1975 won Best Rock or some f-----g s--t."
Noel made his opinion known in 1975 when he told his story of watching something with his kids.
As it turns out, he and his kids thought of the other rock band as "this is f-----g s--t."
"Best Rock Band?" he allegedly asked his kids.
"Someone needs to re-define that immediately, because that is... I don't know what that is, but it's certainly not fucking rock. Whatever rock is, that's not it."

Matty Healy, the 1975's frontman, was recently reprimanded by Noel Gallagher for his suggestion that he and his brother Liam Gallagher should fix their relationship.
Taylor Swift's boyfriend had suggested that "there's not one kid, not one person, going to a High Flying Birds gig or a Liam Gallagher gig that would not rather be at an Oasis gig."
Noel spoke incredulously, voicing his opinions on the band's future. "He would never be able to imagine it? He needs to go over how shit his band is and split up."
Liam had a different perspective on things. "It's our time to waste, who made him the boss of time."
Despite his lack of enthusiasm for 1975, Noel Gallagher spoke favorably about a few other musical acts.
"When we first encountered the members of Kasabian, it was like seeing your younger sister's madcap beau," he remarked. "I could sense something special in them. I saw Tom and Serge as kindred spirits to us."
He revealed he went to see Young Fathers, and it proved to be an unforgettable experience for him, describing it as like seeing a sonic mashup of T-Rex and Frank Sidebottom - "truly a unique combination."
