The 1980 shooting of music legend John Lennon may have involved using more than one gun.
A British author and TV producer, David Whelan, noted that a Semi-wadcutter or hollow-point bullet and a 38-caliber lead bullet were taken from Lennon's body during the autopsy.
This indicated that different weapons had been used in the attack.
After three years of extensive research, Whelan has submitted his findings. He stands by the notion that a second shooter may have been involved in the killing and that differences between bullet types are evidence in support of this theory.
Additionally, there appear to be issues with how police comprehended the incident as it unfolded.
Investigations by Whelan have uncovered a "target list" assembled by the notorious shooter Mark Chapman, which included John Lennon of The Beatles, Marlon Brando from The Godfather, and Jackie Kennedy - the former First Lady.
According to testimony from witnesses of Whelan, instead of shooting Lennon five times in his back as acknowledged by prosecutors, Chapman may have fired into Lennon's chest for a fatal hit. This suggests that what is officially accepted about this event could be incorrect.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Whelan noted that though not a likely possibility, it is possible to have numerous types of ammo in one revolver.
He then pointed out that Chapman was adamant that he had been using hollow-point wadcutter ammunition - an expertise he had picked up from his time as a security guard.
"The varying bullets present within John Lennon's body is a shocking revelation," he went on. "This could possibly be the impetus behind why the medical examiner's findings have not been made public, respecting the wishes of his family to keep it private."
The author posited that the single bullet wound sustained by John Lennon could have been from Mark Chapman, whose hollow bullets missed their mark four times.
Additionally, three bullet holes in the glass vestibule doors at a lower height than Lennon's chest wound supported this theory.
Whelan's research has uncovered possible links between John Lennon's assassination and powerful entities such as right-wing Southern Baptist groups, the US military, or even the CIA.
He proposes that Chapman could have been "groomed" for this act of violence through manipulation or hypnosis - but could a second shooter have been involved?
The discovery of a typical lead bullet lodged in Lennon's body leads to speculation whether this was fired from within the vestibule area and was the single bullet multiple witnesses observed left in his body.
