The 2023 Tony Awards was a breath of fresh air - maybe because it was held at a different venue or because of the unscripted format, but compared to the previous iterations, the show this year was more relaxed compared to last year.

BAFTA and Oscar-winning actress Ariana DeBose returned this year as the host, and she sure was to be commended for pulling off such a stint.

Amid the rawness of the ceremony and the historic wins of the night, a lot has to be unpacked, including the biggest snubs of the night.

'& Juliet', 'Into The Woods', 'Camelot' Goes Home Empty Handed

The musical productions nominated this year were surely a tight and strong pack compared to the past years.

Two Sondheim productions, "Into The Woods" and "Sweeney Todd," were snubbed in the Best Revival category. "Sweeney Todd," however, took home two for Lighting and Sound Design. "Into The Woods," which came into the night with six nominations, failed to take home any award.

"Camelot," "KPOP," and "Almost Famous" also went home without any Tony that night.

The biggest snub and surprise of the night was "& Juliet," which was one of the second-most nominated production with nine nods. The show failed to take home any awards.

Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban

In 2018, Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban, despite being one of the most beloved actors and singers in the industry, sang about how they had never won a Tony Award for themselves. The two singers hosted that year's festivities and dedicated the opening performance for those who leave empty-handed on Tony night.

Supposedly, Groban and Bareilles had their shot again at winning the first Tony Awards of their career. However, they might have to try again next season, as they failed to take home one again.

Groban was the frontrunner for the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical category for playing the titular role in "Sweeny Todd." He lost the award to J. Harrison Ghee of "Some Like It Hot," who went on to become the second Non-Binary actor who win a Tony Award, following Alex Newell's win that night too.

Meanwhile, Bareilles was nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical category as the Baker's Wife from the revival of "Into The Woods." Two-time Tony nominee Victoria Clark took home the award for "Kimberly Akimbo."

"Kimberly Akimbo" won the most awards of the night with five Tony Awards, followed by "Some Like It Hot" with four.
