Shawn Mendes is finally dishing out what he feels and felt when he and his ex-girlfriend Camila Cabello split up for the second time.
"I think I am approaching 25 still feeling quite confused about a lot of things in my life," the "Stitches" singer admitted to Zane Lowe of Apple Music 1.
He described it as "frustrating" like the back-and-forth swinging of a pendulum.
"I think I still am in a very confused place, but I know that there are some people in my life who I deeply love, and I know that music is something I deeply love, and I know that this planet is something I deeply love."
The interview comes shortly after the announcement of the Canadian singer's new upcoming song "What the Hell Are We Dying For?" which is supposed to depict Mendes' mental state during his hiatus from music.
Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello's Relationship Timeline
Before his sudden hiatus-which resulted in a canceled tour, Mendes suffered a devastating blow when he and Cabello broke up in November 2021 after two years of dating.
The former couple went in hard and fast. From Instagram posts of them kissing to showing up at the Met Gala hand in hand, it was difficult to keep track of where the love birds were up to.
More surprising than their first break up was when they rekindled their romance.
According to reports, Mendes and Cabello reunited in April of this year, during Coachella.
During the music festival, they could not keep their hands-or lips-to themselves. Throughout the event, they were seen together, having a great time.
However, shortly after their reunion, the "Seniorita" duo parted ways once again. Cabello, though, was quick to move on because she is now dating someone new.
Despite his confusion, Mendes reveals that the things and people he "deeply love" are still the sources of his inspiration and life.
"And all of those three things are something worth fighting for and worth dying for. And I think that was where that energy was coming from."
Shawn Mendes Moving On
Perhaps the new song is Mendes' way of showing that he is ready to trudge on with his life.
"I was upstate New York and just on the back end of feeling a lot of things about relationships, about my career, about environment," he continued. "And I was in the studio and this moment of just deep frustration came over me and I finally started to feel this inspiration come."
