Aerosmith rocker Joe Perry revealed whether there would be Aerosmith's new music over a decade after the band released its last new studio album.
For years, Aerosmith members have been offering contradicting statements about the band's future, including its potential new music ahead of its "Peace Out" tour. The band has not released anything since 2012, "Music From Another Dimension!" which, for Aerosmith and fans, was a commercial disappointment since they were going through a leadership change at that time.
Will Aerosmith Release New Music or Disband Instead?
Speaking with Classic Rock magazine, Perry spoke candidly about whether there would be Aerosmith's new music to follow up its 2012 studio album.
The 72-year-old guitarist expressed his desire to tour with the band as much as they can since, currently, a potential new LP remains uncertain.
"I want to get out and play to the fans," he said. "That's really the focus right now, to get out and play live. If we get time to work on some new music, that would be great."
However, Perry mentioned Steven Tyler and his bandmates' age, as well as their capacity to do an album as the things that could stop them from doing an album. Despite the uncertainties in his career with Aerosmith, he continues playing and writing songs until he can tour with them again and give something to fans.
The guitarist compared his band to other groups and explained that their age stops them from planning ahead of time.
Aerosmith's "Peace Out" Tour
Perry's comments on Aerosmith's new music came nearly two months after the band announced its "Peace Out" tour with The Black Crowes as its special guest.
The 40-date Live Nation-produced North American tour will start on Sep. 2 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and end on Jan. 26 at Ball Centre in Montreal, Quebec. The latter stop will be the band's first visit to the venue since April 2004.
Out of the 40 stops, Aerosmith's New Year's Eve 2023 special hometown show in Boston will take the spotlight.
Amid the good news, the band also delivered a saddening update as Joey Kramer would reportedly not be part of the touring run as the founding member and drummer would focus on his health and family.
Aerosmith's "Peace Out" tour will follow the band's recently-wrapped "Aerosmith: Deuces Are Wild" Las Vegas residency.
