Tina Turner knew that her days were numbered long before her death, a close friend of the late singer said.
Turner's death rocked the music industry as the singer endured years of health issues before her passing. She also suffered total kidney failure, but her life was extended after her husband Erwin Bach gave her one of his kidneys.
After her long battle with different health conditions, she ultimately passed away at the age of 83 in May.
Tina Turner Expected Her Death
A month after Turner died, her close friend Eddy Hampton Armani shared his heartbreak after learning about the singer's demise. He also shared in a new interview that he was left numb by the news but also clarified that his pal had been expecting her death before her official passing in her home in Zurich, Switzerland.
Armani told People how he reacted when the news about the "What's Love Got to Do With It" hitmaker emerged, saying he did not shed a tear and froze upon hearing it.
He was aware of Turner's final months and how the singer "knew her days were coming" especially since she battled numerous health conditions over the past decades. For what it's worth, the singer also dealt with intestinal cancer, high blood pressure, and a stroke apart from her total organ failure.
Despite the knowledge about Turner's fate, it reportedly "hurt like a ton of bricks" when it finally hit him.
Tina Turner Knew She Was Dying
His comment resonated with what she told Oprah Winfrey in an episode of "Super Soul" years before her actual death. At that time, the singer recalled her reaction when her doctor told her that both her kidneys were not working anymore.
After hearing she would die, Turner said she was already prepared for it and refused to be on a machine that could extend her life.
However, she changed her mind when Bach decided to become her organ donor to save her.
"They took Erwin away for tests and he came back 100% worth giving me the kidney," the late sinegr said. "I thought, 'Well, if I have someone willing to give me an organ from their body, I should stay on a machine as long as I need to.'"
Following the kidney transplant, Turner still underwent kidney dialysis for nine months and was able to live for more years before her recent demise.
