The use of artificial intelligence in the music industry is perhaps one of the most debatable topics right now. With the growing use of AI tools in the industry, artists and other industry figures are trying to wrap their heads around the possible takeover of the technology and how it would eradicate the human touch in music and art.
Dolly Parton, a patron of the arts, expresses her dislike for the said technological advancement.
Dolly Parton Dislikes AI, Hologram Concert
Speaking at a press conference as quoted by The Independent, the "9 to 5" singer admits her disinterest in artificial intelligence, specifically having herself transformed into a hologram for a future concert.
"I think I've left a great body of work behind. I have to decide how much of that high-tech stuff I want to be involved [with] because I don't want to leave my soul here on this earth," she candidly revealed.
The singer was asked if she is down to create a show using a virtual version of herself - similar to what ABBA did to their "Voyage" concert. Unbeknownst to some, ABBA made a leap with technology as their 1979 selves were recorded for a virtual hologram concert - pushing the boundaries of live music entertainment and technology at the same time.
For Parton, doing those things for her is quite a reach already, saying that "we'll find ways to keep me here."
"I think with some of this stuff I'll be grounded here for ever... I'll be around," she continued, even joking that any intelligence from her is "artificial" anyways.
Parton, now 77 years old, is due to release her 49th album, "Rockstar," on November 2023.
Dolly Parton 'Rockstar' Album
Elsewhere in the press conference, Parton also talked more about her upcoming new album, "Rockstar."
Last year, as Parton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, she revealed that she would be creating a star-studded rock album to justify her induction. Among the names that she has thrown in the air was Mick Jagger.
While she ultimately failed to get him, Parton still spoke about him in the interview.
"I wanted him to sing on 'Satisfaction' but he wanted something new and different, which I don't blame him for that, so I wound up singing that with Pink and Brandi Carlile," she admitted, even adding that her husband, Carl Dean, who urged her to create a Rock record, "loves" the "Rolling Stone" vocalist.
