When "The Idol" came out, everyone tuned in to see what all the fuss was about-however, now that the HBO series finale is coming up, and talks of a new season have surfaced, fans are already dreading to see The Weeknd act some more.
"Getting the ick from The Weeknd acting in 'The Idol,'" one wrote.
"I can't listen to The Weeknd's music without seeing his awful acting in 'The Idol."
To make matters worse, according to the gossip account Deuxmoi, insiders share that another HBO series might be getting the chop in favor of "The Idol."
"Someone sent me an anonymous email that was like, 'Euphoria is getting scrapped', and I'm like no way this is true," said Deuxmoi in one of their podcast episodes.
In a follow-up, Deuxmoi shared a screenshot of an email that doubles down on the cancelation rumors: "[...] It is 100% true. Also, Sam Levinson and one of his producing partners are in very deep trouble at HBO/Warner Bros for breaking multiple protocols while working on both 'Euphoria' and 'The Idol'."
The Weeknd, 'The Idol'
Despite HBO being allegedly displeased with Levinson, it seems like the company is pretty happy with "The Idol" and its performance.
According to reports, the HBO is currently seriously considering a second season for the series, and The Weeknd is credited for its success.
"What I was told was at the end of the day, Abel had a vision for it and wanted to see it through," said Da'Vine Randolph. "He wanted Sam to be more than just executive. He wanted him to do it - which lucked out for me, because I got to work with Sam."
"[...] Being completely transparent, there were no red flags because to me, that made sense - Abel had a vision that didn't get executed, he wanted to make sure he really believed in it, he wanted to make sure it's done how he sees it, so he got Sam on board to do it himself."
Lily-Rose Depp Squashes the Rumors
Aside from "The Idol" being tied up in controversy after controversy, Lily-Rose Depp, who plays Jocelyn, insists that the set is a safe space and that she has never felt uncomfortable in it.
I'll never forget it and it will live in my heart forever. I love this character so much, I feel like she has really changed me and also taught me so, so, so much," the actress said.
She also addressed the misogynist allegations against her co-star The Weeknd: "I've never felt more respected and more safe on a set, honestly."
As of this writing, there are no confirmations on whether "The Idol" will really be renewed for a new season or if "Euphoria" will be canceled.
