Coi Leray has proven time and time that she can be committed as she can be in her craft, which is why a lot of people on social media love her and applaud her.

However, the hype and acclaim that she got on social media seemed to not translate into album sales and streaming performance as the rapper performed surprisingly poorly on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week.

Coi Leray 'COI' Album Debut Performance

Coi Leray's sophomore album, "COI," only debuted at No. 102 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, despite its huge hype on social media.

According to AllHipHop, many of her fans are wondering why someone who has a million Instagram followers, huge collaborators, and as well hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, perform poorly in their opening week at the charts.

Among the collaborators Leray had on her album were David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Giggs, Lola Brook, James Brown, and Skillinbeng.

Notably, her song "Players" achieved mainstream success, especially on TikTok. The song peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, her highest charting song ever, and No. 1 on the US Rhythmic Radio charts.

According to Chart Data, the album only sold 10,000 units which were quite baffling for someone who has 38.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Despite this, Coi Leray said that she was "grateful" for the feat.

Boosie Baddazz Defends Coi Leray Billboard Performance

Meanwhile, some took to defend Coi Leray on social media. Outspoken rapper Boosie Baddazz was one to talk. According to the rapper, Leray should have gotten at least 100,000 units in her first week.

Discourse on Twitter also came about after the announcement of her chart performance. According to some, social media becomes an illusion for some artists leading them to believe that they could sell albums in huge numbers.

"A lot of these girls are just singles artists. They can get people's attention for a few singles, especially a sample, but nobody is paying to go to take time out to listen to them for a full album," a user tweeted.

Some supported this idea, giving an example wherein Rod Wave debuted at No. 1 the same day that Megan Thee Stallion's highly-anticipated "Traumazine" was released. For someone as famous and popular on Twitter as Megan, it was surprising that she only debuted at No. 4 at the time with only more than half of Wave's debut numbers
