Young Thug is currently awaiting the official start of his highly-controversial and public RICO trial. While doing so, the court is still on the jury selection process, which has been long as they need to select from over 1,200 potential jurors for the said trial.
The team has since appealed four times for a bond release while waiting for the trial to start, but all attempts have failed. This meant that Young Thug remains in jail for the duration that the jury selection process is taking place.
As they get through each day, the Grammy-winning rapper's team has witnessed an alarming presence of police power in the trial, which they deemed crucial in jury perception.
Young Thug Trial Update: Police Presence Growing?
According to AllHipHop, Young Thug and his legal team have been expressive of their opposition to the growing police presence on their trial. Apart from the rapper arriving with a neck brace, the team has complained that they are being unfairly treated too.
Unlike the prosecution, they have to undergo very thorough searches in front of the jury from the police while the former walks breezily into the courtroom through a back door.
Thugger's family has been relocated to a separate viewing room to distance himself from them. Meanwhile, the neck brace that Young Thug dons every day was also a problem for his defense team as it "contributes" an impression to the jury of how dangerous he is.
Young Thug's legal team has already requested a hearing to present their case - showing evidence of growing police presence - which they are pointing out to contribute to an unfair trial environment.
For them, the evidence that they will present would be necessary for an Appellate Court should the time comes that a wrongful conviction takes place.
The judge has since overruled objections about the said arguments, saying that it was the Sherrif's discretion to increase or decrease the police presence on the trial.
Why Are Police In Young Thug's Trial?
It is customary for court police to be in the trial. However, in Young Thug's trial, AllHipHop reported that police in tactical gear carrying heavy guns and ammunition are seen, contributing to a "fortress-like" environment.
In the past, there had been delays and controversies surrounding the trial. In one instance, Thugger was handed a drug by someone during the trial. The defense team has since denied that their client has any information about the transaction.
