After being hosted at the Liverpool Arena in Liverpool, England earlier this year, the Eurovision Song Contest has found its new host city for its festivities next year!
By tradition, the country of the winner of the previous year of the Eurovision Song Contest will be the host of the proceeding year's events.
Eurovision 2024 Date
According to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Eurovision 2024 date would be on May 11, 2024.
Specifically, the semi-final of Eurovision 2024 will be held on two dates - May 7, and May 9.
Meanwhile, the Grand Finals will be held on May 11, 2024.
Eurovision 2024 Host Country
Automatically, the country that recently won will be the host of next year's contest. Since two-time Eurovision Song Contest winner Loreen won Eurovision 2023, this made Sweden the host country again, making it their seventh time hosting the show.
Sweden officially ties with Ireland as the third country to have hosted Eurovision the most. They fell behind the United Kingdom which has hosted the contest nine times, with this year being the last after they assumed responsibility of hosting as Ukraine could not because of the ongoing unrest in the country.
Eurovision 2024 Host City
The EBU also revealed that the Eurovision 2024 Host City would be Malmö in Sweden. In fact, this is the third time that the said city would host the contest. They hosted in 1992 and 2013, the succeeding year after Loreen's first win on Eurovision 2021.
To date, Malmö is Sweden's biggest city next to Gothenburg, which hosted the contest once in 1985, and Stockholm, the biggest, which hosted it thrice in 1975, 2000, and 2016.
"The EBU is thrilled that Malmö has been selected as the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. Malmö holds a special place in the history of the Contest, having successfully hosted it firstly in 1992 and then in 2013 - following Loreen's last win," Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor Martin Österdahl said in a statement announcing Eurovision 2024 Host City.
According to Österdahl, the city's commitment to "diversity, inclusivity, and innovation" has aligned perfectly with the spirit of the well-loved competition throughout Europe.
"Furthermore, its compact size and well-developed transport infrastructure means everyone involved in the Contest, including delegations, media, and fans will be able to navigate the city easily," he added.
