Security and safety concerns led to Michigan State University's decision to cancel an upcoming Wiz Khalifa concert.
As reported by the Lansing State Journal, Wiz was scheduled to perform Sept. 13 at the Breslin Student Events Center but plans came to a screeching halt after a "review of recent events and assessment of campus concerns."
In a statement, MSU assures that ticket-buyers will get full refunds for the canceled show.
"A full refund will be processed for all patrons within the next few days using the same method as the original payment. Patrons who purchased tickets with cash will receive a refund check within the next few weeks from MSU."
MSU media relations manager Jason Cody confirmed the shooting incident "definitely played a role" in the event's cancellation.
"Members of several MSU groups got together and reviewed the recent incidents at the previous concert and came to the decision we were going to cancel it and offer full refunds," Cody said. "Really, what it came down to was the safety and security of the visitors that were going to attend the concert."
Wiz is also slated to perform at Kennesaw State University in Georgia in October, alongside Ty Dolla $ign. No word on any changes for that show.
As previously reported, a man was shot and killed backstage during a stop on Wiz Khalifa's Under The Influence tour in Mountain View, CA.
Rapper Jeezy was arrested for possession of an assault rifle. TMZ reported the weapon turned up during an investigation into the deadly shooting that occurred backstage.
Jeezy has pleaded not guilty to weapons charges and is currently free on bail.
