Lisa Marie Presley had a cause of death related to bariatric surgery she underwent several years ago - unbeknownst to her friends who have been left in shock.
Having kept the surgery a secret from them, news of Lisa Marie's demise has been particularly jarring for those close to her.
Stunned reactions have come from her friends, who had never suspected that she would go through with bariatric surgery.
Despite this, an investigation by Los Angeles County Coroner's report has determined her cause of death to be small bowel obstruction which had been a result of such a procedure performed several years prior.
The source was outraged, questioning why anyone would ever consider performing bariatric surgery on Lisa.
"She wasn't overweight in the slightest - what doctor in their right mind would do something like this?" they told Page Six.
Bariatric surgery is utilized as a treatment for obesity and can include a variety of procedures such as a gastric band, gastric bypass, or a sleeve gastrectomy.
As reported by the Mayo Clinic, bariatric surgery is typically recommended as a last resort for those who have not been successful in other weight loss methods.
Furthermore, sources reported that Lisa Marie's friends were aware of her "regular tweaks" such as Botox and other injectables that she was taking advantage of, in addition to minor cosmetic procedures.
When Priscilla Presley sent her daughter to church counseling at age 9, Lisa Marie worked closely with Scientologist Jeffrey Augustine. He is a private investigator and ex-Scientology member.
He believes that the secret procedure carried out by Lisa Marie was outlandish behavior compared to when he left the faith in 2014 after reportedly disagreeing with leader David Miscavige.
Jeffrey stated that the woman was determined to shed 40 pounds before meeting up with Baz Luhrmann for the "Elvis" movie.
Financial troubles led her to believe that the film's publicity would improve sales of Elvis' records.

Just two days before her death, the last public appearance of Lisa Marie Presley was at the Golden Globe Awards. Reports had circulated that in preparation for her red carpet moment, she had been using weight loss medication and managed to lose around 40 lbs.
According to a source who spoke to Page Six, they explained, "She wanted to look her very best."
On the day of her death, reports indicated that Lisa Marie experienced stomach pain and was later taken to the hospital when paramedics performed CPR on her at home.
Results from the toxicology report showed Lisa Marie had traces of opioids and other medicines in her bloodstream when she died.
Oxycodone was found at "therapeutic levels" while Buprenorphine, another opioid, was also present. Conversely, when emergency services arrived to aid Lisa Marie at her house, no narcotics were discovered.
