Despite pouring her heart and soul into her newest album, "Chemistry," Kelly Clarkson was crestfallen when it only sold a meager 53,657 copies.
A source divulged to the National Enquirer (via Radar Online) that "The underwhelming success of the album is almost as hurtful to Kelly as the breakdown of her marriage was."
The inside source said how discouraged and disheartened she feels about the results, despite putting so much effort into publicity.
Although she adores having her successful talk program, singing is what lies closest to her heart - it would always come before any television career.
Kelly Clarkson has released her most personal album to date. "Chemistry" is said to be inspired by thetumultuous divorce between herself and Brandon Blackstock, 46, father of her two children.
A source close to the "American Idol" alum revealed that "Kelly put everything out there in a raw and honest way."
They went on to say that it's truly a shame that after all the effort Kelly put into her most revealing album to date, it was met with little interest.
Even more disappointing is that people were clamoring for her to release a cover album; after all, she had generated plenty of buzz with her covers on her talk show.
Despite the pressures, Kelly made a stand when it came to releasing an album of cover songs from her TV show.
She flatly refused, but perhaps she should have heeded their advice! All the same, she thought ahead and contacted her ex regarding the release.
The singer-host reportedly disclosed that there had been "a little text exchange about it," and she also let him know that these tracks weren't solely to do with their split.
Kelly's latest endeavor may cause her some issues, other than her record bombing.

According to reports by Radar, the "Since U Been Gone" hitmaker's relocation to New York City could potentially spark a pricey child custody battle with Brandon.
Brandon, currently embroiled in a legal dispute over commissions with Kelly, may make her life more complicated and costly.
According to an insider, he could request that she pay for his flights to New York to spend time with River Rose and Remy, as well as pick up the check for an upscale hotel room. Said the source from last month: "It would add up."
Although Kelly is loathe to give Brandon any more money, this type of dispute between former spouses is usually adjudicated in court.
As such, the prospect of a lengthy and expensive legal struggle may force her to reconsider her stance.
"This kind of case has seen success when divorced parents are involved," they asserted.
