Jane Birkin's Funeral
The Monday service saw a huge crowd of fans who joined Birkin's family and friends in honoring the late star at Paris' Saint-Roch Church, Women's Wear Daily reported.
According to the report, Birkin's daughters, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Lou Doillon, also helped carry her coffin in the building while her song "Fuir le bonheur de peur qu'il ne se sauve" played in the background.
During the memorial, both Gainsbourg and Doillon gave short, emotional messages to their late mother, whose death "left everyone's souls in pain."
"Thank you for all these adventures, thank you for not having been ordinary, reasonable or docile," Doillon said. "The world of tomorrow, very peaceful and reasoned, it already upsets me."
The "Je m'appelle Jane" singer's fans witnessed the heartbreaking farewell service through a large screen outside the church. They also showed their love for Birkin through the banners that read "Thank You Jane Birkin" and "Jane Forever."
Aside from the bereaved family, singer Vanessa Paradis, actress Catherine Deneuve, France's First Lady Brigitte Macron, and Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak also paid tribute to Birkin personally.
The actress-singer's coffin was moved to Montparnasse cemetery and buried next to her ex Serge Gainsbourg and her daughter, Kate Barry.
What Was Jane Birkin's Cause of Death?
Following her death on July 16, the authorities are yet to confirm Jane Birkin's cause of death. However, ABC News reported that the "Yesterday Yes a Day" crooner suffered several health issues in the years leading to her demise, including a stroke and broken shoulder blade, that kept her away from the spotlight.
Meanwhile, Daily Mail said Birkin passed on her first night at her Paris home alone after wishing to regain independence and get back to a normal life amid her cancer battle.
According to initial reports, one of her caregivers found her body at her residence after she expressed her desire to visit the singer the night prior. Birkin's passing was deemed unexpected, as she reportedly wanted to perform again and had been excited to mark her appearance at the Olympia concert hall.
