Sinead O'Connor's past interview in a 1995 show with her best friend, Shane McGowan, resurfaced following her death.
Celebrities, musicians, and fans continue to pay tribute to O'Connor after her family confirmed that the Irish singer passed away. While her cause of death remains unknown, a newly-emerged clip from a 1995 show recorded what the late musician thought about mortality decades before her passing.
What Sinead O'Connor Said About Death
A clip of the singer and McGowan appearing on a 1995 show resurfaced following O'Connor's death. In the video, the duo performed their song "Haunted" and sat for an interview with the hosts.
In the old clip, Pat Kenny interviewed both singers as they promoted the track for the 1986 movie, "Sid and Nancy," which explored the relationship of the late Sex Pistols member Sid Vicious and his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. At that time, McGowan opened up about reuniting with the couple "somewhere else," leading him to call the song "happy" in a way.
The former Sex Pistols rocker died in the wee hours of Feb. 2, 1979, after he consumed 80 percent pure heroin on the evening of Feb. 1. The New York City Police Department and Medical Examiner's Office soon ruled his cause of death as a drug overdose.
O'Connor then spoke candidly about her own mortality, sharing what death meant to her.
"What are we all doing here, how does the earth hang in space and what's going to happen to me when I die, is it going to be slow and painful?" the late Irish singer said. "But I think if you get through birth which is the most difficult passage, then death is surely a breeze."
Where Is Shane McGowan Now?
McGowan learned about O'Connor's death while he was staying in an intensive care unit due to his latest undisclosed health battle. According to his wife Victoria, he was still in the hospital as of Friday but was already on the mend.
A source told The Sun that McGowan was "floored" by the news about O'Connor especially since they were very close. The unnamed insider noted that the duo had ups and downs over the years but remained best of friends alongside the male singer's wife.
Following the heartbreaking development, McGowan and his wife paid tribute to O'Connor in a post online in which they expressed their hopes that she is at peace wherever she is now.
