Following a thorough autopsy, Sinead O'Connor's family members have at last been able to receive her body.
At 56, she sadly passed away in London on July 26th - this news sent shockwaves through her fan base around the globe.
John Thompson, the clerk of the London Inner South district for Southwark Coroners Court, spoke recently with The Irish Times.
According to his statements, an autopsy was conducted to determine a medical cause of death but its results will likely not be known "for some weeks", Thompson said citing senior coroner Andrew Harris.
Sinead O'Connor Funeral
At this time, details regarding Sinead O'Connor's funeral have not been released.
However, Dr. Ali Selim from Dublin's Islamic Cultural Centre believes that due to her conversion to Islam several years ago, an Islamic ceremony is likely to take place.
Should the family agree to it, the expert would be more than happy to help coordinate a dignified funeral in line with Islamic customs for the award-winning singer.
It has been a sorrowful moment to learn of the passing of the Muslim woman who proudly embraced Islam and spoke openly of her faith. On hearing the news, Dr. Selim expressed his deep sadness and offered condolences to all those that were close to her.
Dr. Selim then further detailed the funeral process, which is compliant with Islamic tradition.
Noting that all services at the Islamic Cultural Centre (ICI) are gratis, the physician explained that should such a ceremony be conducted within its walls, the body in question would first need to be delivered there.
"Should a body be brought here, it is our custom to wash and shroud it. The task is undertaken by the female members of the personnel. From an Islamic perspective, we believe that even in death the deceased should still possess the same esteem as when alive."

This included stirring words from acclaimed Scottish singer Annie Lennox, who described Sinead as "bold and beautiful" and a "truth teller" in a beautiful poem.
Only a few days before her passing, renowned TV presenter Ryan Tubridy interviewed Sinead described her as "kind, powerful, passionate, determined, and decent". Since the suicide of her son Shane last year, it had been reported that the singer relocated from Ireland to London in search of solace.
In honor of her life and the legacy she left behind, numerous memorial services have been organized for the public to come together and remember her impact as a musician and activist.
