Huey Lewis shared how devasted he was when he started losing his hearing over the years, affecting his work as a musician.
The 1980s iconic musician started reaching the peak of success when he debuted in The Huey Lewis and the News. But an issue arose when a condition affected his hearing.
Huey Lewis Details Hearing Loss Condition
Lewis exclusively appeared in an interview where he recalled when he started suffering a condition that eventually led to hearing loss. He was diagnosed with Ménière's disease, an inner ear disorder that occurs when a build-up of fluid in the inner ear occurs.
The famous musician said he could not hear music anymore, contributing to the deep depression he fell into.
"It's cacophony for me. It just sounds like noise," he told Page Six. "It occurs in all frequencies with harmonics and other things and what happens with my particular hearing loss, is not only is it hearing loss, but it ends distortion to the bottom end."

Lewis was in his late 30s when the disorder started in his right ear. At that time, The Huey Lewis and the News entered their heyday; thus, making the singer freaked out.
His ENT doctor reportedly comforted him by naming other musicians with hearing issues and telling him he could still pursue music despite his condition. Among those music icons included Brian Wilson and Jimi Hendrix.
The physician also told him he only needed one ear and he could still work with that. However, Lewis lost his hearing in both ears in 2017.
Huey Lewis Faced "Real Depression"
After his hearing loss, the "This Is It" singer found himself at rock bottom as he felt devastated by the development. He told the news outlet how he felt several emotions - panic, worry, depression - that he ended up staying in bed for six months.
He still tried to restore his hearing through different holistic treatments and other possible ways like acupuncture, changing his diet, and even chiropractors. Unfortunately, none of those worked.
Currently, Lewis wears hearing aids to continue his career and legacy. He reportedly keeps his head high by reminding himself how a lot of people have worse conditions than he has.
