Artificial intelligence has been strongly debated in the music industry after its rise over the past few months. There were some singers who approve of the modern technology, but there are also some who disagree.
Ed Sheeran has been mostly known for his acoustic tracks throughout his career and many are wondering if he agrees with the massive rise of AI; check out what he has to say below.
The British singer recently dropped by "Audacy Live" prior to his concert at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City for a private event.
During his conversation, the musician, who has four Grammy Awards under his belt, explicity told the show that he doesn't agree with the use of artificial intelligence.
"What I don't understand about AI is, for the last 60 years, Hollywood movies have been telling you, 'Don't do it.' And now everyone's doing it," he said. (via Billboard)
Ed Sheeran Explains Why He Disapproves of AI
The singer later explained that he doesn't know why people need AI, especially that it's taking jobs away from people.
"I think that's probably a bad thing. The whole point of society is we all do jobs," he added.
The "Thinking Out Loud" hitmaker further noted that if everything is done by robots and technology, everyone will not have jobs anymore that's why for him, he finds "AI just a bit weird."
Not All Artists Are Against AI
Ed Sheeran might be against the concept of artificial intelligence, but not everyone in the music industry disapprove of using it.
In early reports, music legend Nile Rodgers spoke with The Daily Star to express his own opinion over the vast spread of technology.
He told the outlet that artificial intelligence is "a big deal out of nothing" but he's still hopeful and thinked that it might be something wonderful.
Regarding its use for music, he compared it to the Academy Awards wherein there is a separate category for animation and for real-life.
Even though there have been several softwares that mimics the voices of other artists, Rodgers further discussed that AI had been taking over the industry for decades now when instruments transitioned from classical to synthetic.
Even though he agrees with AI, the musician said the important thing is compensation for songwriters or those who worked on a certain track that used AI.
