BTS fans were whiplashed by the sudden turn of events: Suga wrapped up his "Suga Agust-D" tour, BTS had a mini-reunion, and Suga's enlistment announcement.
The KPOP supergroup's management and label, BigHit Entertainment, announced the news through their website and social media accounts: "We ask you for your continued love and support for SUGA until he completes his military service and safely returns. Our company will spare no effort in providing support for our artist."
Fans took to Twitter to express their best wishes and heartbreak at the announcement, with a fan saying, "He will do excellent like he always does!"
"Shall I say this as the expected news?"
"He's not going anywhere. He just finished his concert. You are not going anywhere Yoongi."
Suga will be undergoing South Korea's mandatory military enlistment for the next two years. While the date of his enlistment was not announced, for the sake of the KPOP idol and his family's safety, he is expected to be released in 2025.
Suga Says Goodbye After 'Suga Agust-D' Tour
The announcement of Suga's enlistment comes a day after he wrapped up his highly anticipated solo tour, "Suga Agust-D" which had stops in various cities across the world, from the United States all the way to Asia.
The KPOP star reflected on his remarkable journey as a soloist, after years and years of releasing music and touring alongside the six other members of BTS.
"I came to say hi after my last concert," Suga said during a live stream. "I think I had a fun tour the last couple of months. I really don't cry. "Those past 10 years went by like a film. I started crying from then."
He also addressed his impending military enlistment elsewhere in his live stream, and did his best to reassure fans that it would be over before they even realized it.
"I think it's a lie if I say 'soon,'" he said. "Let's see each other in 2025, OK? Please wait a little bit. "2025. See you then!"
BTS Reunion in 2025
If fans are weary and worried that BTS might never come back after going on hiatus for their military enlistments, then worry not.
During Jimin's appearance at Suga's talk show, the pair discussed the future of the group and when they would make their official return with all seven members.
"We'd all be back together when we're done," Jimin said. "Honestly, I have no idea what we'll talk about or where we'll even begin. I'm curious about that and that's why I want to go to that time."
Suga urged Jimin and their fans to look at the silver lining, "I'm all excited about 2025 because by then, we would all have released singles or albums. So we could create an album and talk about ourselves more."
