An irreparable rift developed between Angel Carter and their mother, Jane Carter, after the former released gruesome pictures of Aaron Carter.
The 35-year-old expressed to People magazine that the incident was a clear breach of the "I'm All About You" singer's privacy, something he would not have wanted others to witness.
On March 1, some shocking photos were made public by Jane. These were horrifying visuals that displayed a floor with what seemed to be excrement and a bathtub filled with murky green liquid.
This all occurred close to four months after Aaron's unfortunate demise in his California residence.
In a move to get law enforcement to take her son's death more seriously, the late pop star's mother decided to make previously private photos of him public. She firmly believes that her son was murdered and wants authorities to investigate it as such.
Despite the tremendous amount of hostility directed at her son, she made it clear in a Facebook post that "Aaron's life was still being ruined by all these death threats.
In the end, the investigative team determined that Aaron Carter's death was caused by a combination of drowning and being exposed to a flammable gas typically found in cans of compressed air.
To make matters worse, they also uncovered alprazolam in his system - a generic form of Xanax.
The autopsy report on him concluded that the manner of death was accidental, with no "life-threatening traumatic injuries" present.
However, this did not mend the broken relationship between Angel and her mother. Aaron's twin sister reported that she has not spoken a word to their mother since Jane released the controversial photos.
"Aaron dying was the worst possible outcome for all of us. My brother deserves to be here."
The Carter family, which includes Nick Carter of Backstreet Boys fame, has not had an easy life according to Angel.
She has claimed that they experienced emotional abuse, dysfunction, and addiction during their childhoods.
These struggles have seemingly continued into the present day as well - in May of this year, Jane was charged with battery following a heated disagreement with her husband over the volume of their TV.
Following a night of drinking, reports indicate that a quarrel broke out between Jane and her husband which eventually led to physical aggression.
Angel, who tried to keep her life as untainted as possible, opened up to People about using her sorrow over Aaron's passing to fight against any negative labels attached to mental health issues.
