Lil Tay and her family received criticism for allegedly creating the death hoaxes as a publicity stunt.

Internet users were left shocked and confused as reports that Lil Tay was alive emerged after the death announcement was made through her Instagram page. The social media star and her family told a news outlet that her social media account was hacked and used to spread jarring misinformation - something people are not buying.

Lil Tay's Death News Was a Publicity Stunt?

Outraged internet users slammed Lil Tay and her family for allegedly creating the fake publicity stunt in pursuit of making her relevant in social media again.

In 2018, the Canadian rapper scored attention for sharing photos and videos of herself showing her wealth. After the "confirmation" of her death, her family said the social media star was safe and alive.

Following the turn of events, Twitter users expressed rage and branded the events a PR stunt.

"Lil Tay is irrelevant and this was a PR stunt," a Twitter user said.

"This Lil Tay sh-- has been milked so hard that I I'm at the point I assume this is just a fake publicity stunt, because the PR is enormous for some child star I've literally never heard of before this week," one wrote.

"That Lil Tay thing was a very successful PR stunt," one said. "Didn't even know she existed until the last 24 hours."

Lil Tay's Ex-Manager Shares Theories

After the family's statement about Lil Tay, the rapper's former manager Harry Tsang said he feels relieved that she is safe but added that "an alternative motive" might be at play.

He told The Mirror that something is fishy about the account being hacked, as platforms can restore compromised accounts within 24 hours.

Tsang then mentioned Lil Tay's brother, who is infamous for his extreme actions, as he probably was the one who created it for an alternative reason.

At the same time, the former ex-manager said that if the post was made to make Lil Tay gain attention again, then it was an "irresponsibility.

"It's essential to consider the potential repercussions of employing such tactics, particularly given their potential impact on the perceptions and sentiments of the broader audience," he continued.
