For Lionel Richie, water trump earth, wind, and fire.
On Saturday, the scheduled performance for his and Earth Wind & Fire at Madison Square Garden was postponed just an hour before it was set to start due to Lionel being unable to make it due to inclement weather.
A massive crowd of eager fans filled up a stadium, many spending considerable time on tickets and accommodation, all excited to experience their favorite artist perform.
At Madison Square Garden, it was 45 minutes past the show's start time, yet something had yet to begin.
Lionel tweeted at 8:31 PM. "Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, and I'm unable to make it to the show tonight."
However, the show was supposed to start at 7:30 PM.
He went on to say, "I'm so bummed. We are rescheduling the show to Monday, Aug 14. I can't wait to perform for you all. Tickets for tonight's show are valid for the show on Monday."
As the news spread throughout the arena, a hush quickly filled the venue.
People's faces dropped as the spokesperson confirmed that the show was canceled.
The atmosphere suddenly filled with despair as people began to ponder whether they could return home for Monday. Footage shows dejected fans booing and making their way out of the venue.
The legendary band known as Earth, Wind and Fire will take to Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport.
Although Lionel won't be with them, many still wonder whether they will play a show there or at The Garden. Even though it cost a substantial $170 for nosebleed seats, one Pediatric Nurse expressed her anger and frustration to The New York Post about her hefty ticket fee.
A nurse, accompanied by her husband and a colleague, had made the journey from Long Island especially to enjoy their weekend off.
However, when Monday came around, she could not take time off work. "Does [Lionel] think it's so simple for me to miss a night of work?" she asked in frustration.
This sent alarm bells ringing for one married couple who was in attendance. "We knew something wasn't right," said the woman. "After all, you don't sell out MSG only to call off due to bad weather. I'm not sure what's happening, but I can sense something else is happening; it almost seems like they used the weather as an excuse."
Her husband nodded in agreement.
The sky was dark, and clouds loomed overhead. That's what the security guard outside MSG said when asked why the Commodore's front man canceled the show.
Fans were enraged when they heard the news. They had spent much money on tickets, travel, and sometimes even hotels to attend the concert, only to be disappointed and out of pocket.
