According to Luminate, as quoted by Rolling Stone, the day after "1989 (Taylor's Version)" was announced at the last concert of the North American leg of "The Eras" Tour at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
"The last time that I was so pleasantly surprised by some stuff that you guys did was when I announced that I was going to be re-recording. That was something that I expected to be just a me thing, just a personal thing. Since I was a teenager, I wanted to own my music. The way to do it was to re-record my albums, and the way that you have embraced ... that you have celebrated, that you really decided that it was your fight too, and that you were 100 percent behind me ... I will never stop thanking you for that," she said as she announced the new re-recording.
Per Luminate, the official data cruncher of the Billboard charts, the week leading to the rather "imminent announcement," streaming for the original "1989" album was at around 6 million per day. As Swift announced the album Wednesday night, it skyrocketed to 14 million the day after.
Over the weekend, the streaming power for "1989" persisted, which saw additional 10.6 million streams on Friday, which was a 74% boost from the week before.
On Saturday, the whole 13-tracked album raked in additional 7.5 million streams, compared to the 1.3 million streams a week before.
Notably, "1989" marked Swift's huge transition from Country music to Pop. Ushered with now-timeless tracks like "Blank Space," "Wildest Dreams," "Shake It Off," and "Bad Blood," the album is one of the biggest fan favorites from her entire discography.
