Jimmy Buffett's health hit ups and lows before the music icon's death.
The "Margaritaville" icon's official website and official social media pages confirmed on Friday, August 8, that the crooner died peacefully at 76 while surrounded by his "family, friends, music and dogs."
"He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many," the statement continued.
The statement did not state Jimmy Buffett's cause of death, but sources said he was battling cancer when he passed away.
Jimmy Buffett's Health Issues Explored
Over the past few years before his death, Buffett dealt with several health issues that affected his schedule as a musician.
In 2006, Buffett posted a since-deleted message on Margaritaville's official website to address the issue about him allegedly bringing over 100 ecstasy pills. French customs officials searched his luggage and fined him $300 before he was released.
According to Buffett, the pills in question were not actually ecstasy but a B-vitamin supplement, Foltx. He did not share what health problem he had that needed to be managed with medicine, but it is mostly used to help one's body in terms of cardiovascular and cell health, as well as reducing symptoms of depression or anxiety.
Reports said he also suffered a heart attack in 2011, the same year he sustained a head injury when he fell while performing at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion. At that time, an audience member said Buffett fell after going over to the edge of the stage and disappearing in a snap after taking another step.
He regained consciousness but was still transported and admitted to St. Vincent's Hospital Emergency Center.
Buffett also underwent a surgical procedure to treat his torn rotator cuff in 2016, per reports.
Two years later, he sparked concerns after revealing the major changes in his diet and lifestyle, including the removal of sugar and carbohydrate-rich foods and the use of vaping oils instead of marijuana. At the time of his death, the public learned that these changes had something to do with his private cancer battle.
The singer continued performing while dealing with the dreaded disease privately. However, things started to deteriorate in September 2022 when he announced he would refrain from touring for the rest of the year due to health issues and hospitalization.
He worried fans once again in May when he shared on X that he had been hospitalized after visiting a medical facility for a check-up. He did not disclose what led to his hospital admission but promised fans he would be back on stage soon.
A few days later, Buffett took everyone's worries away by assuring them he was on the road to recovery and even proved to them he was doing well by sharing his fishing trip with his pals.
After a long wait, he finally made a surprise show in July during Mac McAnally's concert, and he told fans, "Well, it is good to see an audience, let me tell you that."
Little did his fans know, it became one of his final appearances before his death.
