Justin and Dorian, Wright's sons, sent a confirmation to ABC News and Variety, revealing that the singer - who initially planned to become a doctor - died at the age of 80 at his Palos Verdes Estates home on Monday.

Before his sons released the statements, a news outlet first reported the news and noted that he passed away after receiving Parkinson's disease and dementia diagnosis. His family and friends surrounded him until he took his last breath.
According to Justin, his father's Parkinson's disease - which started six years ago - progressed and affected the singer's daily life.
"Very kind and very spiritual. I was always struck by his deep and enduring love for his darling wife Rose, who I'm thinking of now," Wright's representative, Elizabeth Freund, said in a statement to People. "Your Love Is Alive - now and always Gary."
